Art Therapy for the Soul

The symbolic process of artistic creativity is an infinite well from which

you can draw insight, self-knowledge, and transformative experiences.

Workshops in Byron Bay, NSW, and Brisbane, QLD.

The great thing about art therapy is that it accesses the right side of our brain. This part of our brain speaks to us in symbols, metaphor and intuition. Through the right hemisphere of our brain we gain greater access to those parts of our psyche that are unconsious. When our left brain or 'rational' brain gets stuck, it is often the 'right' brain that comes up with the solutions.

With art therapy you can access both sides of your brain by using both drawing AND words. What recent brain research has discovered is that by using both sides of our brain in therapy we contact deeper places in our psyche, and have more profound undertandings, insights and change.

So expect to have new insights and realisations. Or to discover new ways forward. What's more, the saying that 'a picture says a thousand words' is very true with art therapy. You will be amazed at what your drawings 'tell' you .

Then to take the processes even deeper we will be using simple mindfulness , or meditation, practices. Mindfulness helps us to integrate processes and allows the body and mind to slow down so that we can hear our inner voice more clearly.

Do I need to be artistic?

Not at all! If you can draw like a two year old that's all that is needed!  You can be as abstract and messy in your drawings as you like.  You can also be as simple as you like - stick figures are fine, as are lines and diagrams .

The psyches and souls of women also have their own cycles and seasons of doing and solitude, running and staying, being involved and being removed, questing and resting, creating and incubating, being of the world and returning to the soul-place.
